Furuba
Fruits Basket, also famously known as Furuba when abbreviated, is a shoujo manga series by Natsuki Takaya. It was originally published in the Hana to Yume and Shoujo Stars magazines. Beginning year January 1999 till November 2006, a complete 23 tankoubon (manga volumes) have been published by Hakusensha. The English versions were released starting February 2004 in America and a year later in Singapore, published by Tokyopop and Chuang Yi respectively.
Several years after the first manga was released, the story was adapted into a TV anime series. A total of 26 episodes were showed on air from July 2001 till Dec 2001. The anime series, directed by Akitaro Daichi, was animated and produced by Studio DEEN and premiered on TV Tokyo. It was released in 9 DVD volumes in Japan by King Records starting Sept 2001 till May 2002. Before it was licensed, a box set was released along with a message card from Natsuki Takaya, a deluxe booklet and a bonus sountrack. The Fruits Basket anime was licensed / distributed by FUNimation Entertainment, MVM Entertainment, Revelation Films and Madman Entertainment.
